Driving through the Fire Scorched Hills of San Bernadino CA

I smelled it before I saw it. The smell of burnt earth, wood and houses. I can’t image what it was like when the fires were roaring thru here.  It looks like another planet….still, lifeless, black and eerie. This highway was closed  while the fires had their way. Closed a long long way. To see the landscape really puts it in perspective. What the firefighters were up against. It’s San Bernadino California–the heart of some of the worst fires. I can’t help but feel for the animals…..and wonder how they fared.

  1. Oh, very eerie indeed. I’ve driven through the area several times and just can’t imagine this and other sites being so burned and devastated. Your photo captures the strangeness of it.
